Other Dinghies

Not owning one of the main three classes currently sailed at Minima does not mean you cannot have competitive fun on the water. Lasers, Toppers, Optimists and Nationals all take part in racing at Minima during the season. Some are club boats available for any qualified member to use, others privately owned.

Toppers have been a long time favourite with younger club members as they require little maintenance, can be transported on a roof-rack and are easy to launch and retrieve.  Being a single-handed boat they provide the independence often sought by young teenagers! Another popular single-hander is the Laser, often found in large numbers in coastal and reservoir clubs and Minima has a few too. Less well suited to gentle summer breezes in the confines of our reach, a Laser comes into its own in a brisk Northerly or Southerly when the wind blows directly up or down the river.

The Handicap trophies whether series-based or special events are fiercely competed for by this small but enthusiastic group of members. Any sailing dinghy is welcome to join and race at Minima in the Handicap class. You will find the fleet is as welcoming and competitive as the rest of the classes.
