Minima Yacht Club, for once, enjoyed near perfect conditions for its ‘RYA Push the Boat Out’ on Sunday 19 May, with warm sunshine and a light northerly breeze which was ideal for taking beginners out to introduce them to the joys of sailing and canoeing on the River Thames.

We had 31 visitors (including 5 children) during the day of whom 18 ventured out on the water. Others have signed up to come back for taster sessions on another day. The club was also delighted to show off its superbly refurbished Clubhouse and invite passers-by in for tea and cakes, or to relax with a drink on our balcony overlooking the river. The Clubhouse was refurbished with the help of an ‘Inspired Facilities’ grant from Sport England and a lot of hard manual work put in by club members.

Steve Collins, Sailing Secretary commented that: “Minima Yacht Club has a fantastic volunteer ethos and the success of the open day was down to a lot of hard work put in by club members including experienced club helms and canoeists who took visitors out on the water, beachmasters, meet and greet team, tea bar helpers, and bar staff”.
