David Langley Trophy 2016

posted 1 Apr 2016, 04:49 by Paul Bloomfield
On a very windy day at Minima Yacht Club in Kingston upon Thames, four boats turned up to compete in three handicap races for the David Langley Trophy. Only three boats started the first race, and with each of them capsizing at least once, the two Toppers were winning out over the slow-to-recover Enterprise with Erica Bishop (Topper) the victor. The Ent managed to capsize again just before the starting sequence for the second race so sat that one out with Erica again claiming the victory. After a reviving tea for the exhausted sailing and launch crews the final race saw Robin Broomfield and Paul Bloomfield (Enterprise Believe in Better) keep it the right way up to claim a consolation victory with Erica retiring as the current swept her down past the leeward mark upside down.

Honourable mention goes to Ed Mayley (Topper) who was the only boat to finish every race but Erica's wins in the first two races gave her the David Langley Trophy for 2016.
